Alvaro Alvarez and Maria Lopez
NEGROIMPAR (Spain) Alvaro Alvarez is an Industrial Designer (graduated from the IED Madrid) specialized in product and furniture design and Maria Lopez is an Architect (graduated from the ETSAM, Polytechnical University of Madrid) specialized in energy-efficient architecture solutions and creative processes.
While working for different architectural studios in Madrid, they started collaborating in parallel with each other on the development of some design concepts. By the end of 2014, they decided to set up their own business and they founded ‘NEGROIMPAR’, an architectural and design firm both based in Asturias and Madrid that is half way between a project office and a creative lab.
Their main strands of work and research are now focused on optimizing and improving distributions of interior spaces and researching about new furniture design needs for enhancing the users experience and developing creative solutions for domestic environments, workplaces and retail projects, always offering an integral and personalized design service from the first idea to the last technical detail.
Some of their latest product concepts and furniture designs have been recognized and shown in some well-known design events and fairs around Europe, such us the SuperDesign Show (Milan, Italy), Cevisama (Valencia, Spain) or, more recently, the London Design Festival (UK).
Hatch Watch STEEL - IDA Design Award Winner 2019
Designer: Alvaro Alvarez & Maria Lopez (Negroimpar)
As time changes so too does one's perspective. We are constantly reminded how differently one thing can be interpreted. From design team Negroimpar, the Hatch Watch STEEL was created to show the ever-changing perspective that occurs as time passes by. By utilizing the Hatching technique, which seeks to create value by drawing or shading closely spaced parallel lines, the face of the watch is constantly evolving. In the case of the Hatch, parallel lines are used to initiate a cross-hatching pattern as time changes throughout the day. Red (Hatch BLACK) or Black circles (Hatch STEEL) chase each other across the face of the watch to show the minute and hour, as a single white second hand stretches across the dial to serve as a simple reminder of the inevitable beauty of perspective.
The Hatch Watch STEEL is a unisex watch measuring 40mm (1.57") in diameter and 8.8mm (0.35") high. It is made of a black IP stainless steel or silver brushed stainless steel and comes with a 20mm (3/4") black leather band. Or if you wish, just order an extra silicone band at the time of purchase. Our exclusive stainless steel mesh band also fits the Hatch. All bands can be found under BANDS at the top of the page.
The watch is designed by NEGROIMPAR (Spain). Its principals, Alvaro Alvarez, an Industrial Designer (graduated from the IED Madrid) specializes in product and furniture design and Maria Lopez an Architect (graduated from the ETSAM, Polytechnic University of Madrid) specializes in energy-efficient architecture solutions and creative processes. While working for different architectural studios in Madrid, they started collaborating in parallel with each other on the development of cutting edge design concepts.
